Critical Infrastructure Monitoring is an enterprise add-on module for the Censys platform that extends the standard internet scan dataset with coverage of ICS and OT industrial protocols. It identifies internet-exposed industrial control systems — including SCADA endpoints, industrial protocol services, and operational technology devices that should not be internet-accessible. The module is designed for critical infrastructure operators, government cybersecurity teams, and OT security specialists who need visibility into exposed control plane devices.
The module surfaces ICS and OT exposures using the same Censys Internet Map infrastructure, adding protocol-level data for industrial services not covered by the standard platform. During incidents, analysts use ICS protocol data and screenshots captured by the Censys scanner to rapidly assess the scope of internet-accessible OT infrastructure. Critical Infrastructure Monitoring is an add-on to an existing Censys enterprise platform subscription — Censys Core or equivalent is required to activate the module.
Critical Infrastructure Monitoring extends the Censys scan to cover ICS and OT industrial protocols not included in the standard internet dataset. This includes SCADA systems, industrial protocol endpoints such as Modbus, DNP3, and Ethernet/IP services, and operational technology devices that may be inadvertently accessible from the public internet, providing visibility that standard IT-focused scanning misses.
The module identifies internet-facing industrial control systems and OT devices that represent a critical exposure risk. Assets that should be air-gapped or network-isolated but are reachable from the public internet are surfaced, enabling operators and security teams to prioritise remediation of the most dangerous exposures before they are exploited by threat actors.
During active incidents, analysts use ICS protocol response data and screenshots captured by the Censys scanner to rapidly assess which OT assets are internet-accessible and what services they are running. This accelerates incident scope determination without requiring physical access or coordination with OT operations teams during time-critical response windows.
Critical Infrastructure Monitoring is built for operators of systems covered by critical infrastructure regulation — energy, water, transport, manufacturing, and government facilities. It provides evidence-based visibility into the external OT exposure posture of the organisation, supporting both routine audit cycles and the rapid response posture required by sector-specific cyber regulation.
